Reliable Optical Communication for Smart Metering
Modern AMI systems require stable and accurate data capture at the meter level. Manual meter reading was time-consuming and error-prone.
Tespro's optical probes, including the TP-BT and USB series, enabled automatic data retrieval via optical ports, supporting various meter brands and protocols. Bluetooth and USB models offered flexibility for both field and desktop use.
Case
Product Case
A Middle Eastern utility company grappled with a series of challenges in its smart energy transition journey. Incompatible legacy meters, cumbersome wired data collection processes, and unreliable performance in outdoor settings severely hindered its progress. In search of a cost-effective and protocol-flexible solution to streamline electricity and thermal meter data capture, the firm opted for Tespro’s TP-232 series optical probes.
Equipped with an RS232 interface and support for multiple communication protocols, the TP-232 seamlessly integrated with the client’s mixed-meter network. Its patented RS232 power-stealing technology eliminated external power dependencies, while strong magnetic adhesion enabled quick, tool-free installation. IP54 protection and a durable ABS+PC enclosure ensured stable operation in harsh outdoor conditions, aligning with the client’s fieldwork demands.
The utility procured 2,800 TP-232 probes for deployment across residential and industrial zones. Post-implementation, data collection accuracy reached 100%, on-site collection efficiency improved by 40%, and integration costs were reduced by 30% compared to replacing legacy meters. “The TP-232’s multi-protocol compatibility and plug-and-play design let us upgrade without overhauling existing systems,” said the client’s operations manager.
This case highlights the TP-232’s role as a cost-efficient bridge for legacy system modernization, reinforcing Tespro’s 20-year legacy of delivering reliable, protocol-agnostic energy data collection solutions.
