Reliable Optical Communication for Smart Metering

Modern AMI systems require stable and accurate data capture at the meter level. Manual meter reading was time-consuming and error-prone.

Tespro's optical probes, including the TP-BT and USB series, enabled automatic data retrieval via optical ports, supporting various meter brands and protocols. Bluetooth and USB models offered flexibility for both field and desktop use.

Case

Product Case

A utility testing firm struggled with switching between mechanical and electric meters during on-site accuracy verification—existing probes required separate tools for each meter type, leading to cumbersome equipment carrying and workflow delays.

Tespro’s TP-17C Duplex-function Scanning Probe revolutionizes utility metering with its groundbreaking one-button mode switching mechanism. This innovative feature allows technicians to seamlessly transition between mechanical meter and electric meter testing with a simple press. Gone are the days of carrying multiple devices; the TP-17C streamlines the process, enhancing efficiency and reducing equipment bulk.

At the heart of its versatility lies a dual-sensing system. For mechanical meters, the scanning probe is equipped with high-precision sensors that detect even the slightest rotate marks, meticulously tracking the movement of meter dials. On the electric meter front, it employs advanced optical and infrared sensors capable of capturing light/IR pulses with pinpoint accuracy. These diverse input signals are then processed through a sophisticated internal algorithm, converting them into consistent and reliable electric pulses. This ensures uniform data capture across different meter types, enabling seamless integration with existing data management systems. Whether dealing with legacy mechanical meters or modern smart electric meters, the TP-17C delivers unparalleled accuracy and consistency, setting a new standard in utility metering technology.

The included TP-GS2 fixture and strong magnetic design enable secure mounting on any meter, while the durable ABS+PC housing and IP54 protection handle frequent field use. This all-in-one solution streamlined the firm’s mixed-meter testing process, reducing equipment clutter and ensuring smooth, efficient accuracy checks.
